The official release of the new booster set: Order of Chaos today meant that there is now another loop in the game.<br />
<br />
Basically it involves the rather new archtype: Wind-up.<br />

<br />
<br />
The format for the tournament is something unique to regions under Konami Entertainment (Hong Kong), where each teams would have to get together three members who would form decks that, when combined, not exceed the current Asian Forbidden and Restriction list. Due to the nature of the format, it is not uncommon to see the usual tier 2 and below decks from being utilised in the tournament, as each team attempts to dish out different strategies to handle the event.<br />
<br />
I had the honour of teaming up with the core of last year's winning team, Team Attack, which comprise of Jeff, the reigning Asian Champion, as well as Michael Santoso (or more commonly known as Bahamut84), Singapore's representative to World Championship 2008. Both of them represented Singapore to the inaugural Asian Championship Plus held in Hong Kong in 2010.<br />
<br />
After some playtesting and discussion, we had agree of the setup of Dark World, T.G. Agents and Machina Gadget.<br />
<br />
Team Name: Challenge Accepted!<br />
Michael: Dark World<br />
Jeff: Machina Gadget<br />
Myself: T.G. Agents<br />
<br />
<br />
We arrived at the venue slightly pass 9am, and with registration slated to start at 10am, we proceed to fill in our decklist with the provided forms.<br />
<br />

This year's event was held in Cheng San Community Centre. Kudos to the organising committee, I think the choice of venue was excellent. The hall is air-conditioned and has a high ceiling, which means that the air would not be stale like in some of the previous location used.<br />

Fast forward to approximately 11:10am, pairings for Swiss Round 1 was announced and we proceed to play at table 9. A total of 18 teams were contesting, and there would be 4 rounds of Swiss to be played. Simple calculations tells us that we would need at minimum a result of 3-1 to stay within top 4 positions after Swiss and the first round would give us crucial tiebreakers to make it happen.<br />

A win to kick start the day was always welcomed and this is no exception. The number of contesting teams, 18, would indicate that one team would be down-paired at Swiss Round 2. We were praying that it would not happen to us. No disrespect to teams who lost round 1, but to play against them in round 2 is slightly disadvantageous in terms of tie-breakers.<br />
<br />
<br />
Our prayers were answered.<br />
<br />
<b>Swiss Round 2: vs Team "Insane Tech" (Table 3)</b><br />
Teamleader: Michael 2-1 Poh Seng (Agent Angel)<br />
Member A: Jeff 2-1 Wesley (Junk Debris)<br />
Member B: Jeremy 1-2 Wee Min (Rabbit Lagia)<br />
Overall: 2-1<br />
<br />
We were informed that our table were to be hit with an impromptu deck check. So our games were pushed back by 15 mins. It also meant that our game went into the lunchtime for the other participants. We had to rush to get some takeaways at the nearby coffeeshop before returning to the venue.<br />
<br />
Having a 2-0 at the end of swiss round 2 allowed us to play without much pressure. It was clear cut, win 1 of the other 2 games and advance.<br />
<br />
<b>Swiss Round 3: vs Team "Heng Heng" (Top Table)</b><br />

If there was to be any participants that I have to give special credit to, then it has to be Aim from Team "Heng Heng." Playing through the discomfort of a fracture, he has to shuffle his cards in a tedious and intensive manner which would put most players off from playing. Nonetheless, he made it to the event and competed in a professional manner, displaying great perseverance.Way to go, Aim!<br />
<br />
Now 3-0 overall, we were assured of qualification. Swiss round 4 was a formality and the pressure is off for all of us.<br />

Prior to the game there was the mention of the perfect swiss curse amongst the two teams. Add that to the confirmed qualification of both teams, so the drive to win was not very high within both teams. Calvin was my playtest partner for Dark World for this event, so I knew the chance of winning my round was not going to be high. Nonetheless I tried and pushed it to 3 rounds.<br />
<br />
Our team finished 4th overall in the swiss and made it to final 8 of the event. The four teams which won the various shop qualifiers would join us at this point.<br />

From this point, we knew there would be no pushover. All of the teams remaining were either elites with portfolio of topping events or were playing unusual strategies that was hard to predict. Team "FTW" had two of the most recent toppers in World Championship Qualifier 2011 Singapore Finals. The overall winner Daniel and 2nd runners-up William, so it was not going to be easy.<br />
<br />
To me it was a finals brought forward, team of past champions vs young champions. And indeed, after defeating us convincingly, they went on to clinch the trophy and overall representation rights for Singapore in Taiwan this coming December.<br />
<br />
Overall, I am pleased that Team "Challenge Accepted!" managed to top 8 for the event, given that most of our preparation were held when Jeff and I had our finals in University recently. I felt that perhaps with a bit more luck, we could have achieve more. But results are final and we were indeed defeated convincingly.<br />
<br />
To end it off, good luck to Team "FTW" in Taiwan. I hope you guys will win it for Singapore this time, and bring back the title as a fitting tribute for the hosting country of Asian Championship 2012.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">Today we
are going to look at one of the concepts I have been thinking about for the
past few weeks. That is, whether Chain Disappearance is good as a side-decking
material against Fairy Agent. To do so, we will use a conceptual model, where
assumptions are made, to investigate the Math behind it.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">Based on
observation, quite a number of players are siding in Chain Disappearance against
the Fairy Agent Matchup as an answer to the special summoning of Mystical Shine

decks around for the time being, also meant that more players are playing Chain
Disappearance in their side-deck.</span></div>

<br />
<span lang="EN-SG">So, what is
it in Mystical Shine Ball that is so fearful that there is a need to side-deck
against it? The vanilla monster allows one of the most card-gaining plays in
this Metagame. To unlock it, it has to be used in conjunction with Agent of Creation
– Venus. At the cost of 500 life points, a player may utilise the effects of
Venus to special summon one Mystical Shine Ball from their hand or deck. Simply
put, you can reduce your deck count and increase resources on the field at the
same time using just one card. The release of Xyz monsters, specifically Gachi
Gachi Gantetsu, further improved the utility of the card. It is a common sight
to see an Agent of Creation – Venus, with an attack of 2000, surviving long
periods of the game to gain insane resource lead on opponent.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">The
probability of drawing Agent of Creation – Venus in an opening hand of 6 is 39.43%.
We will assume that the rational player will try to special summon Mystical Shine
Ball using it at every first opportunity available to reduce/eliminate the
chance of drawing into the vanilla monster, and to increase the chance of
drawing other cards (by reducing total deck count). The scenario of obtaining
it via Pot of Duality is ignored because the latter’s side effect will prevent
Venus from using its effect.</span></div>

games where you go first, on average there would be one game where you get to activate Chain
Disappearance on Mystical Shine Ball on opponent’s opening turn. At first
glance, it would seem to be a decent ratio, but once the assumptions are
lifted, it would be a different case.</span></div>

<u><b><span lang="EN-SG">Assumption
Investigation 1: Chain Disappearance obtained by Pot of Duality</span></b></u></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">Earlier, we
ignored the chance of obtaining Chain Disappearance by Pot of Duality. It is
without a doubt that the chance of drawing into it would be greater should we
include them. However, being a rational player, if your opponent were to see
that you pick Chain Disappearance from your Pot of Duality then the most
rational move in most case would be to hold the specifically affected play
until they can clear your trap. This means that even if opponent has Venus in
their hand, they would hold it until a later turn. The chance of activating Chain
Disappearance on Mystical Shine Ball on opponent’s first turn is then reduced.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<u><b><span lang="EN-SG">Assumption
Investigation 2: Chain Disappearance not cleared by Mystical Space Typhoon or
other effects</span></b></u></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">Throughout
the investigation, it was implicitly assumed that Chain Disappearance will not
be removed by effects before its activation. Logically, if it exist the chance
that it would be removed, then the probability of it being activated on the
first turn will also be lower.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<u><b><span lang="EN-SG">Assumption
Investigation 3: Opponent makes Venus
play immediately once available</span></b></u></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">In the
investigation held, it was assumed that opponent would play their Venus once
there was an opportunity to do so. There exists the possibility that they might
hold back this play despite having Agent of Creation – Venus in hand. One might
think that there is no big deal about this. However, one of the most important
concept in this game Is to not draw dead, or to draw resources which would not
be helpful to improve the situation. Having a Chain Disappearance setup but not
being able to utilise it meant that you are having “artificial” resources no
better than a bluff. Looking from opponent’s perspective, even if they summon
Venus, they may not declare to use its effect and still have a monster with a
reasonable attack of 1600 on their field. They may also choose to banish it to
special summon Master Hyperion. In short, Chain Disappearance being a dead card
is more likely than Agent of Creation – Venus being a dead card.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<u><b><span lang="EN-SG">Assumption
Investigation 4: Why first turn?</span></b></u></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">As a side
deck material, you want to see it being played at the first opportunity at the
scenario which it was intended for. Once you miss this opportunity, the
likelihood of it being a dead draw increases with every turn passed. The first
opportunity of special summoning Mystical Shine Ball with Agent of Creation –
Venus is on the first turn, hence the focus on it.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">With every
investigation, there would be counter arguments to it</span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<u><b><span lang="EN-SG">Counter Argument
1: I can set it as a bluff until my opponent falls for it</span></b></u></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">This is the
typical argument for side deck cards, which commonly works, but not in this
case. As mentioned previously, the copy of Agent of Creation – Venus in
opponent’s hand can still be utilised for other plays while your copy of Chain
Disappearance remains passive on your field. If you are looking for a bluff,
then probably Dust Tornado, or most other spell or traps with less stringent
activation requirements would be better at serving the function.</span></div>

Argument 3: I can use it on Agent of Mystery – Earth as well</span></b></u></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">To answer
this, we have to look at various scenarios. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">The first would
be Agent of Mystery – Earth being played prior to any copies of Mystery Shine
Ball being summoned. In this scenario, you would suffer a net loss of 1
resource as Chain Disappearance is used on Agent of Mystery – Earth, which nets
another copy of Agent, typically Agent of Creation – Venus. In addition, you
would have served to help opponent reduce his deck count by 2, further
improving his draw chances. The most card advantageous play of Venus – Shine Ball
would follow on the next turn, making the move weird to carry out. For the rest
which feels that Master Hyperion is going to have fewer Agents to banish for
its summoning condition, do note that Agent of Creation – Venus is already in
opponent’s hand.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">The second
scenario would be playing it on Agent of Mystery – Earth after Mystical Shine
Ball is summoned previously. In this case, you are probably activating the trap
at the last opportunity available, where opponent is carrying out what I call a
Resource Risk Free Move (RRFM). RRFM refers to a move which does not involve
much resources loss should it fail, for e.g. summoning a Green Gadget when
there are still copies of Red Gadget in deck. In this scenario, opponent is
probably trying to filter away the remaining copies of Agent of Creation –
Venus in hope of drawing into their bigger monsters. By removing all possible
remaining copies of Agent of Mystery – Earth, you are probably helping you
opponent to achieve what they are aiming to.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG"><u><b>Conclusion</b></u> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-SG">To
conclude, Chain Disappearance is a mathematical unwise card to side against
Fairy Agents due to its stringent activation requirements. The lack of
consistency, as well as versatility, meant that the card would be inefficient
against pure Fairy Agents. However, this is not the case as with T.G. Agents.
The two decks, while similar, run differently from one another.</span><br />

After 5 rounds of Swiss, the players finishing top 8 (in order of ranking) were:<br />
<ol>
<li>Danial Ang (Grave Blackwings)</li>
<li>William (T.G. Agent)</li>
<li>Bryan Chua (Fairy Agent)</li>
<li>Kian Leng (T.G. Agent)</li>
<li>Samuel (Twilight Lightsworn)</li>
<li>Jia Rui (Whirlwind Blackwings)</li>
<li>Jackie Lim (Hero Beat)</li>
<li>Jeremy Chua (Fairy Agent)</li>
</ol>
Out of the 8 players, 2 (25%) were playing T.G. Agent and the same number were playing Fairy Agent. To have 4 out of 8 (50%) of decks advancing to day 2 to be variants of Agent reflects the dominance of the arch type for the time-being.<br />

Based on records, it appears that Fairy are having a good lead into the metagame, taking 34% of the overall Top-4 positions in the period. Notable mentions would be Hero Beat, which continues to manifest itself in the metagame despite the releasing of Heavy Storm into the legal card pool.<br />
<br />
This coming weekend, Singapore will have the first of its "Major" event in Singapore Showdown Finals, a 2-day event held for 32 invited participants who earned the invitation in 8 qualifiers. It would be the first of the many indication of how the metagame in Singapore would evolve as with the new list, as the honour of representing the country to Singles Event of Asian Championship Plus, held in Chinese Taipei, is on the line.<br />
<br />
I have the honour of being one of the invited participants, hence my coverage might not be as thorough as I would like it to be. Nonetheless, I will try my best to showcase what is happening in this small island-state to the rest of the online community.<br />

Personally, what do you think of the card?</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-left: .05in; margin-right: .9pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; tab-stops: .5in; text-autospace: none;"><span style="color: #545454; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">Galileo:</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-left: 17.6pt; margin-right: .9pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; tab-stops: .5in; text-autospace: none; text-indent: -9.0pt;"><span style="color: magenta; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">*I think it´s amazing. Whether it´s good for the game or not, that´s another topic. As for the card itself, it is really, really good. If you guys follow Yu-Gi-Oh on forums and online, you probably know I won my nationals with Tengu Plants before it really took off, and then topped CA Continentals with an updated version. Let me put it to you this way, if Tengu was legal, worlds would be so much different.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-left: .05in; margin-right: .9pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; tab-stops: .5in; text-autospace: none;"><span style="color: #545454; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">MintStar:</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-left: 17.6pt; margin-right: .9pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; tab-stops: .5in; text-autospace: none; text-indent: -9.0pt;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">*Are you amongst the players who hope that the card will be hit by the upcoming September 2011 Forbidden and Restriction list?</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-left: .05in; margin-right: .9pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; tab-stops: .5in; text-autospace: none;"><span style="color: #545454; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">Galileo:</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-left: 17.6pt; margin-right: .9pt; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; tab-stops: .5in; text-autospace: none; text-indent: -9.0pt;"><span style="color: magenta; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">*No, I don´t want it to get hit, and I have a feeling it won´t. </div><div style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">I predicted a metagame of Six Samurais, Plant Synchros and various version of Machina Gadget for the tournament. The tech choices in the deck reflect that.</span></div><div style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG"><span style="color: black;">Effect Veiler</span>, Spirit Reaper and Gale are mainly for the Six Samurai matchup, where you need to handle the Shi En effectively. </span></div><div style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">Effect Veiler works before and after Shi En is out on the field; it is used to prevent the effects of Kageki which would essentially create one Shi En on the field and at the same time to respond to Shi En's negation effect should it manage to be special summoned. It also opens up the option of XX-Saber Gottoms when you have Machina Cannon in hand.</span></div><div style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">Spirit Reaper is used to buy time before you draw into cards that will allow a comeback. In addition, there would be occasions where opponent opens badly, and you manage to use the effects of Breaker to clear his Spell or Traps, Spirit Reaper allows you to stretch the advantage further. It also helps to act as bait for Traps, clearing the way for Machina Fortress to lay down the smack down thereafter.</span></div><div style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">Gale offers the most option amongst the techs in my opinion. On its own, it can reduce the attack of Shi En to be within range of most monsters in the deck, less Yellow Gadget. It also grants access to Burei, Black Rose Dragon and Blackwing Armor Master, which are all useful against Shi En. For scenarios where Black Rose Dragon is less than optimum, Arcanite Magician fills in the gap to offer a more directed cards removal solution.</span></div><div style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">One other tech which was considered is Neo-Spacian Grand Mole. It offers a reusable removal solution for Shi En and against set monsters which Plant Synchros usually commit to. However, bearing in mind the high probability of running into various version of Machina Gadget, it was not included. The risk of being hit by Dimensional Prison or facing monsters with on-summon trigger effects is too high to offset the reward of a reusable effect.</span></div><div style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">Moving into spells, Pot of Duality was capped at two because it conflicts with the main aim of summoning No. 39: Utopia out as a bait, wall and beat stick. There was serious consideration to drop one copy to reduce the deck size to 40, which would be mathematically optimal. However, taking Game Two and Three into consideration, it was decided to keep it at two. The fact that the deck runs nine copies of cards which serves to add another card into hand when summoned meant that the marginal reward of reducing a copy of Duality does not offset the advantage of an additional chance to dig three (or two, depending on how you view it) cards into the deck for game two and three to look for cards sided in.</span></div><div style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">One stray copy of Smashing Ground helps to keep the opponent cautious and at times, overly-conservative. When revealed by Pot of Duality, or used early in game, opponent would probably be thinking about the holding their bigger monsters in hand until it is safe to summon them. It also offers opening for Gadgets to attack by clearing monsters which are bigger than them.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">Giant Trunade was dropped in favour of Seven Tools of the Bandit because the latter could still be activated successfully in the face of Shi En.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">Limiter Removal was dropped because it serves as deadweight until the kill.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: black;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: black;"><span lang="EN-SG">Compulsory Evacuation Device was the trap tech which doubles as a Smashing Ground, Book of Moon, and Nobleman of Crossout. When used together with Machina Gearframe, it allows much momentum to be gained.
